Support For Senator Nelson Plummets
According to Rasmussen, Nelson went from a 55% unfavorable rating to a shocking 64% unfavorable rating after he ignored attempts to convince him to vote against the Democrat-created health care reform bill.
Perhaps he should have listened to Gov. Huckabee, who seems to be much more in touch with Nebraska citizens.

Will Democrats Abort Themselves?
Will Democrats Abort Themselves?
The more Americans learn about the health care reform bill, the less they like it. Yet Democrats continue, in the face of plummeting poll numbers and the exodus of their more conservative members, to push a bad bill through.
There are many problems with this bill - notably the findings of Pricewaterhous Coopers that it will dramatically hike average Americans' premiums, and is likely to fail to reduce the number of uninsured people.
But I believe the main problem the Democrats are going to face - should they get the bill they want - is a pro-life community highly energized by being forced to pay for elective (not medically necessary) abortions with their tax dollars.
These energized pro-lifers are going to work as never before to raise funds, back pro-life candidates, and turn out the vote on an already severely weakened Democratic party.
Knowing this, I have to wonder: Why do they want to cover elective abortions?
Does the bill cover other elective procedures like face lifts, breast enhancements, and liposuction? No, it does not.
Don't women have the same right to those types of elective procedures as they do elective abortions? One could argue, yes.
The problem the Democrats have is they are forced to appease their pro-choice liberal base, and in so doing they may very well abort themselves.

2010: Democrats Have Lost Independents
Here's a new Rasmussen poll out this week that shows how shockingly bad things are for the Democrats right now. Heading into the 2010 mid-term election year, they have seen their support among the critical independent voting block plummet. Says Rasmussen, "among voters not affiliated with either party, Republicans lead by a 43% to 19% margin."

Mike Huckabee Leads the Fight Against ObamaCare

The Coming Mid-Term Tsunami
Out today is the new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll that shows Democratic support is tanking as we head into a mid-term election year.
The key finding that jumped out at me: "...voters intending to back Republicans expressed far more interest in the 2010 races than those planning to vote for Democrats."
As we speculated here last month, this poll reinforces our belief that Obama's first (and perhaps only) mid-term election is setting itself up to be a repeat of Clinton's, in which the Dem's lost a 50-year reign as the majority.
Mike Huckabee is hard at work helping conservative GOP candidates get elected.

Is a Child's Life Worth $11? Stop the Abortion Mandate
Recently, the Senate Finance Committee rejected efforts by Republican Orrin Hatch to permanently block federal funding of abortions in the health care reform bill. This means YOUR tax dollars could be used to pay for unnecessary abortions.
The vote was almost entirely along Party lines --only Republican Olympia Snowe voted with the Democrats.
Pro-Life Republicans need to regain the Majority in Congress and stop the abortion mandate. This is why I am asking you to help me send a message to the pro-abortion Democrats and Republicans in the Senate.
I urge you join our Pro-Life Team by making a contribution of just $11 (or more, if you can). That is one dollar for every seat Republicans need to regain control of the Senate.
Let me also be clear about something, not one penny will help re-elect Republicans like Olympia Snowe.
Huck PAC stands firmly for the sanctity of Life and we will not support any candidate that votes against Life.
Not in the Senate, not in the House not anywhere.
It is a founding principle of our PAC and it is something that is inviolate. I hope you will join us.
Your donation is the start of our nationwide effort to build a team of pro-Life voters. With your donation, you will have the option to have your name listed as a Founding Member of our new team on our website.
The time for action is now. We must not sit on the sidelines and let the Democrat controlled Congress and President Obama trample on the rights of the unborn. Doing so is just an invitation for greater catastrophe.

Huckabee: Better Ideas for Health Care Reform
That's scary stuff, but he's not the first to say it. Way back in 2005, almost 5 years ago, we blogged here about Governor Mike Huckabee's campaign to improve citizens' health and reduce state and federal health care expenses. Back then, Governor Huckabee was raising his red flag warning that Medicaid and Medicare cost increases were on an unsustainable trajectory that could ultimately bankrupt state and federal government.
But Huckabee wasn't just sounding an alarm. He had real, practical, workable ideas for correcting the problem. Ideas that, had he been elected in 2008, we would be well on the way to implementing today. The basis of Huckabee's health care reform idea is personal responsibility.
The average American has let himself/herself get horribly out of shape, spawning the rapid spread of extremely expensive, largely preventable chronic diseases such as diabetes (poor diet and exercise) and heart and lung disease (smoking). Not to mention all the knee and hip surgeries and hospitalizations that would be eliminated if people ate right, quit smoking, and exercised.
On top of the personal responsibility problem, our entire health care system is set up to treat disease NOT to reward good health.
Here's just one of those old throw-back posts from 2005:
MIKE HUCKABEE: Tip of Spear on Major National Issue
That issue is health care.
On June 15, Huckabee, currently Vice-Chairman of the NGA, will join Chairman Mark Warner, Governor of Virginia, to testify before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee about Medicaid reform, launching the national debate on this issue.
The following month, at the NGA's annual meeting, Huckabee will take over as Chairman. In this role, he will help lead all 50 governors and congress through the critical and delicate process of reforming a program that provides health care for over 53 million low-income and disabled Americans.
Skyrocketing costs and swelling membership roles have driven state's Medicaid costs to levels beyond what they pay for K-12 public education, making it the single largest portion of states' budgets. The rate at which Medicaid is growing, if not slowed, threatens to bankrupt state governments or force large tax increases.
Mike Huckabee, a compassionate conservative, says the challenge is to allow states the flexibility they need to stem the program's exploding costs without cutting off vital medical care for millions of Americans.
But the health care issues facing America go far beyond making necessary reforms to existing medical care delivery programs like Medicaid and Medicare. Americans must reform themselves.
The fastest way to reduce national health care expenses is to reduce the need for health care in the first place. America faces a health crisis today called obesity. With over 65% of the population classified as overweight-to-obese, health care costs associated with diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure, knee surgeries and myriad other obesity-related costs are skyrocketing. Many, many of these costs are preventable and reducing them can save literally hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade alone.
Worse, obesity is running rampant among America's children, reducing their quality of life and literally threatening to shorten the lives of an entire generation for the first time in American history.
Governor Huckabee, a national role model and leader in wellness and health care, will use the Chairmanship of the NGA to tout his own personal story and his innovative Healthy Arkansas initiative that promotes wellness incentives for state employees. This program, parts of which have already been duplicated in other states, will serve as a model for the federal government, other states and ultimately private insurers and businesses around the country.
Governor Mike Huckabee is the right man, in the right place, at the right time to lead America through this urgent domestic policy agenda.

Tampa Tribune: "Huckabee Doesn't Deserve Bad Press He is Getting"
James Hibbs, columnist for the Tampa Tribune has joined the long list of objective journalists who took the time to look into the facts of the Washington State police murder tragedy before formulating an opinion. His view: "Mike Huckabee doesn't deserve the bad press he is getting."

CLEMENCY QUANDRY
BY JAMES HIBBS
SUNCOAST NEWS COLUMNIST

Mike Huckabee doesn't deserve the bad press he is getting. In 2000, when he was governor of Arkansas, Huckabee commuted the 108-year prison sentence of a man named Maurice Clemmons.
Just two weeks ago, Mr. Clemmons repaid the governor's kindness by killing four police officers in Washington state. More than a few fingers are pointing at Huckabee for freeing Clemmons.
Arrested at 17, Clemmons was a violent thief, and a series of judges threw just about every book at him that they could find. A decade later he sent a letter to Huckabee asking for clemency. Others vouched for him, including a judge, and Huckabee did indeed reduce his sentence enough that Clemmons qualified for an immediate meeting in front of a parole board. He successfully convinced the board he was a changed man and was set free. Now nine years later, he is dead.
Clemmons was by no means the only person Huckabee ever granted clemency. The governor granted 163 pardons during his decade in office. This rate of 16 a year is higher than that of most any other governor in the country. It has been alleged that this prodigious clemency rate was reckless, that he released dangerous people for less than substantial cause. This is obvious garbage.
The granting of clemency is an admission by the state that sometimes the criminal justice system does wrong. Huckabee felt, as did many others, that sentencing a teenager to 108 years in prison was extreme. It is foolish to allow an isolated case like this to overtake the importance of compassion in the criminal justice system. Only 9 percent of the people Huckabee granted clemency are back in prison.
He couldn't have known who those people would be, but it was worth it to free the 91 percent who just needed a second chance.
Michelle Malkin Slanders Huckabee, Does Damage Control
In this interview done just last week, she was asked about her thoughts on Mike Huckabee and whether she thinks he'll run again in 2012. After giving a quick reply to the actual question, she launches (unasked) into a diatribe about what her motivations where:
"Now I want to talk specifically about my coverage of that case," she spins, "because I was not one of those people who cast it or framed it in a political way."
This statement comes AFTER she publicly slandered Huckabee using false reports about the facts of the case.
This is the political equivalent of farting in an elevator and then trying to act as if someone else did it.
Nice try, Malkin. You are already waaaay too on the record with your viciously misguided, cynical, and politically motivated slanders to suck it all back into your backside now.
The truth comes out.

trails only 46-45, improved from 49-44 in November."
"Huckabee [also] does the best of the
Republican hopefuls with [the crucial] independents, trailing just 49-41."
And finally, "there is no evidence that Huckabee’s been hurt by the bad publicity stemming from [the Washington State tragedy] last month."
The American people saw through the cynical and disgusting smear campaign attempted by political opponents and their minions. And, I believe, those who participated will be hurt by the blowback.
